A full circuit of Tasmania can be drawn in seven days, but a map understates mountain roads, town stops and changing weather. Ten to fourteen days produces a more useful trip. With seven, choose one major experience each day and accept what you will miss.
Days 1–2: Hobart and the Tasman Peninsula
Use Hobart as the first base, then make a full-day journey to Port Arthur. Do not combine the peninsula with a late drive to the east coast.
Days 3–4: East coast to Launceston
Travel through Orford, Swansea and the Freycinet area, then continue north via St Helens. Add a second east-coast night if walking or taking a boat trip.
Days 5–6: North and north west
Launceston, the Tamar Valley and the north-west coast can fill several days. A fast circuit might continue to Stanley, while a slower trip adds Cradle Mountain from a separate base.
Day 7 and beyond: west coast return
The west coast route through Zeehan, Strahan and Queenstown is slow and weather-exposed. From Strahan to Hobart, the Lyell Highway crosses remote country. Do not schedule a fixed flight connection after a long same-day west-coast drive.
Check road conditions, park bookings and fuel range daily. The trip-length planner help turn this outline into an achievable itinerary.
