Hobart and Launceston handle most passenger arrivals to Tasmania. Devonport and Burnie airports serve the North West, while smaller scheduled services connect King Island and Flinders Island. The best airport is the one that reduces backtracking, not automatically the one with the cheapest fare.
Hobart Airport
Hobart Airport is east of the city at Cambridge. Current ground options include airport bus, taxi, rideshare and rental vehicles. The terminal does not provide overnight accommodation, so late arrivals should have transport and lodging confirmed.
Launceston Airport
Launceston Airport is about 15 kilometres south of the city near the Midland Highway. Rental vehicles, taxis, rideshare and pre-booked transfers operate from the terminal. It is a practical gateway for northern Tasmania and onward road travel.
Regional airports
Devonport Airport and Burnie Airport at Wynyard provide regional services whose routes and frequency can change. King Island and Flinders Island also depend on smaller aircraft, with weather and baggage limits especially important.
Before booking
Compare the full itinerary, including rental-car availability, one-way fees, airport transfers and baggage. Hiking packs, bicycles, camping fuel and lithium batteries have airline restrictions. Confirm these directly with the carrier.
