Hobart’s strongest views explain the relationship between the city, timtumili minanya / River Derwent and kunanyi / Mount Wellington. The best choice depends on cloud, wind and how far you want to walk.

kunanyi / Mount Wellington

The summit provides the broadest view when it is clear, but snow, ice, wind or fire danger can close the road. Check the City of Hobart mountain page before driving and carry warm clothing in every season.

Queens Domain and inner hills

Queens Domain has short paths and open views close to the centre. Knocklofty Reserve and Mount Stuart add suburban perspectives, with unsealed tracks and steeper sections.

Across the river

Rosny Hill and the eastern shore reveal the city against the mountain. Use formed parking and paths, and avoid roadside stopping on approaches to the Tasman Bridge.

Cloud can be part of the view. If the summit is covered, choose a lower reserve instead of waiting in unsafe roadside conditions.
