Build the day around valley towns
Avoca and Fingal offer heritage streets and places to pause. Services and opening days are limited, so confirm fuel and food rather than assuming every town has a late-opening stop.
Expect a different road near St Marys
The approach climbs from the Fingal Valley and weather can change quickly. Fog, frost, fallen branches and wildlife may slow travel. Check road warnings and avoid rushing to meet a fixed east-coast arrival.
Choose side trips carefully
Lake Leake Highway offers a separate connection towards Swansea. Forest reserves and waterfalls can involve gravel roads or changed access. Add them only after checking conditions and allowing daylight.
