Perth is a growing Northern Midlands town on the South Esk River, about 19 kilometres south of Launceston. A historic core and river reserves sit beside newer housing and the Midland Highway corridor.
Walk the historic centre
The council-supported self-guided walk links public streets and buildings associated with the town’s nineteenth-century development. Many listed houses remain private.
River crossing and flood history
Bridges and punts were central to Perth’s road role. Successive bridges were damaged or destroyed by floods, so current river conditions and reserve closures matter.
Use Perth as a short stop
Allow one or two hours, then continue to Evandale, Longford or the Northern Midlands. Use designated parking rather than highway shoulders.
