Geeveston is a service town in the lower Huon Valley. Orchards and forestry shaped its growth, while current visitors use it as a base for southern forests and Hartz Mountains National Park.
Read the working-town history
The town centre retains community buildings and interpretation linked to timber and apple growing. Historic logging images show industry, not current public access to forests or machinery.
Plan mountain and forest trips separately
Hartz Mountains weather can change rapidly and may include snow outside winter. Tahune and other forest destinations have separate operators, roads and access conditions.
Use local services
Fuel, food and current advice are easier to arrange here than deeper in the valley. Link Geeveston with Huonville, Franklin and the Huon Valley guide.
